Course Catalog: Continuing Education

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for plumbers and electricians in the state of Connecticut. We have received approval for the 2014 Electrical requirement and the 2014 - 2015 Plumbing requirement.

Section 20-334d of the Connecticut General Statutes requires that all types of electrical license holders and most types of plumbing license holders obtain continuing education hours of instruction to renew their respective licenses.

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for electricians in the state of Connecticut for the 2014 requirement. It is mandatory for licensed electricians to attend continuing education classes on a yearly basis. For 2014, four CE hours are required for license renewal and the class must be taken before renewal.

The 2014 class will include instruction on:

  • The following specific 2013 State Building Code Amendments
    • R101.4.6 Electrical
    • R104.10 Modifications
    • R105.2 Work Exempt from permit
    • R109.1.5.2 Additional Electrical Inspections
    • R314.3.1 Alterations, repairs, and additions
    • R314.4 Power Source
    • R315.1 Carbon Monoxide Alarms
    • R315.2 Alterations, repairs and additions
    • Amendments to the 2011 National Electrical Code
  • Awareness of the new “Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals”
  • A review of all of the changes in Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the 2011 National Electrical Code Book.

    All license holders attending classes are required to have their own copy of the 2011 National Electrical Code as well as a functioning calculator.

Plumbing Continuing Education for the 2014-2015 Renewal Year

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for plumbers in the state of Connecticut. It is mandatory for licensed plumbers to attend continuing education classes for a total of 7 CE hours for license renewal. Journeymen are required to complete continuing education hours every odd numbered year as a condition of license renewal. Contractors must complete continuing education hours every even numbered year as a condition of license renewal.

The State of Connecticut is set to adopt the 2012 International Plumbing Code on January 1, 2015.  Due to the large number of changes between the current 2003 code and the 2012 code, the Connecticut Plumbing and Piping Work Examining Board has adopted specific code sections to review in the Continuing Education classes. The object for this course is to have those contractor license holders become familiar with the code changes before they come into effect.

 2012 International Plumbing Code soft cover book
or
 2012 International Plumbing Code & Commentary soft cover book
or
 2012 International Plumbing Code in an Electronic Format (e-book, PDF, CD-ROM)

PLEASE NOTE: Our class is based on the 2012 International Plumbing Code and Commentary.  However; the State is allowing either version of the 2012 IPC to be brought to the class; the basic code or the one with commentary. (In either the soft cover book or electronic format). 

The 2012 International Plumbing Code soft cover book can be ordered from us for $67 plus sales tax.  The book can either be picked up during regular business hours at our offices in Rocky Hill or at the registration table on the day of your class.  To order a book please call the CEC office at 800-358-8825.
