Course Catalog: Continuing Education

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for plumbers and electricians in the state of Connecticut. We have received approval for the 2014 Electrical requirement and the 2014 - 2015 Plumbing requirement.

Section 20-334d of the Connecticut General Statutes requires that all types of electrical license holders and most types of plumbing license holders obtain continuing education hours of instruction to renew their respective licenses.

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for electricians in the state of Connecticut for the 2015 requirement. It is mandatory for licensed electricians to attend continuing education classes on a yearly basis. For 2015, four (4) CE hours are required for license renewal and the class must be taken before renewal.

The 2015 class will include instruction on:

Connecticut General Statues:
- Sec 20-340 Exemptions from licensing requirements
- Sec 20-332-15a Employment of apprentices
- Sec 20-332-15-a(f) How to register an apprentice
- Sec 20-332-16 Prohibited acts. Records. Lettering
- Sec 20-335 License fee. Continuing education requirements. Expiration and renewal
- Sec 20-338a Work required to be performed by licensed persons
- Sec 20-338b Building permit applications. Who may sign
- Sec 20-338c Work not to commence until permit is obtained
- Sec 20-340 Exemptions from licensing requirements
- Sec 20-341 Penalties for violations


Safety:

NFPA 70E and the appropriate charts for categorizing Hazards/Risk [Table 130.7(C)(15)(a)] and the appropriate Protective Clothing and PPE [Table 130.7(C)(16)]


2011 NEC Code Changes
  CHAPTERS 5, 6, 7 & 8 with emphasis on the following articles:
  • Article 517: Health Care Facilities
  • Article 680: Swimming Pools, Fountains and Similar Installations
  • Article 690: Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
  • Article 705: Interconnected Electric Power Production Sources

  CHAPTER 9 TABLES /CALCULATIONS

All license holders attending classes are required to have their own copy of the 2011 National Electrical Code as well as a functioning calculator.

Plumbing Continuing Education for the 2014-2015 Renewal Year

The Construction Education Center is an official provider (#1275) of Continuing Education classes for plumbers in the state of Connecticut. It is mandatory for licensed plumbers to attend continuing education classes for a total of 7 CE hours for license renewal. Journeymen are required to complete continuing education hours every odd numbered year as a condition of license renewal. Contractors must complete continuing education hours every even numbered year as a condition of license renewal.

The State of Connecticut is set to adopt the 2012 International Plumbing Code in 2015.  Due to the large number of changes between the current 2003 code and the 2012 code, the Connecticut Plumbing and Piping Work Examining Board has adopted specific code sections to review in the Continuing Education classes. The object for this course is to have those license holders become familiar with the code changes before they come into effect.

 2012 International Plumbing Code & Commentary soft cover book
or
 2012 International Plumbing Code in an Electronic Format (e-book, PDF, CD-ROM)

PLEASE NOTE: Our class is based on the 2012 International Plumbing Code and Commentary.  However; the State is allowing either version of the 2012 IPC to be brought to the class; the basic code or the one with commentary. (In either the soft cover book or electronic format).
